Just a short one today. We’d love to show you some of the great new art that we have at Tusk Gallery.
Journey To Others : Painting on Silk by John Martono
Lisa’s paintings are a study of beauty and colour, a study of the light and vibrancy of her surroundings where she currently lives on the Sunshine Coast. “My art reflects ‘my’ real and ‘my’ imagined – the shapes, forms and textures that contribute to the world I inhabit. I use a unique vocabulary of symbols, marks and shapes to bring to the canvas combinations of colour, space and time. In order to interpret the subject of landscape in my own way I push the boundaries by dismissing technique in favour of making my own personal mark.
My wish is that my art will be seen as a series of experiential landscapes where the viewer steps outside the confined realms of what they see and begin to feel what they might see when looking into the negative spaces of nature”
LIFE EXPERIENCE Born Te Puke, New Zealand Lives and works Sunshine Beach, Australia I have painted for most of my life on and off as time has permitted raising a family and working full time time in other creative fields. As well as being a full time window dresser my husband and I owned and operated a commercial pottery for many years in the 1970s where I was in charge of design and decoration. We were privileged to work under and with the well known English and latterly NZ potter Jim Nelson in Hanmer Springs. I have no formal art training apart from that which I learned sitting at the feet of two talented artist parents and attending many, many art workshops over the years which has worked brilliantly in enabling me to find my own feet as an artist without the confines of formatted learning.
This body of work began with the thought of how our outer landscapes shape and reveal our inner landscapes. The first piece I began with was ‘Shaking the Kaleidoscope’ painted in strong primary colours which confirm the strength of my attachment to this wonderful land, the jewel like visuals of sun, sea and land and the way they all toss around to make my heart sing. I am hoping these works sit somewhere between how I have approached my art over the last several years in a more detailed manner and a move toward opening my work up to a looser and slightly less rigid style.
