“Urban Amazons” and Other “Eclecticity”

Our next Exhibition at Tusk Gallery South Yarra will feature the art and sculpture of a very eclectic group of artists and sculptors. The only thing they have in common is that they are all new to Tusk Gallery and that I love what they are doing as artists.
The main image shows a photo shoot for Sydney Artist Tania Wursig’s contribution to the Exhibition. Tania is currently working on 10 pieces. The series is called “Urban Amazons” and I’m really excited to see the end result.

Watch a preview on YouTube HERE.

Art is indeed about the freedom to express, and painting need not necessary be strictly on canvas. For many artists painting on silk can be a novel and unique idea, requiring a special ability. But for John Martono, using silk as a preferred medium for painting has become a trademark for self-expression. Renowned mostly as a textile designer, his works are very much related to textile science and technique. With his years of experience as textile lecturer at the Bandung Institute of Technology, he devotes himself to textiles and is known by his students as Captain John. It comes as no surprise therefore that he uses silk for his painting. He shares these words from experience, “It is rather unique since painting on silk is not easy. You know, silk is quite expensive and I must use special paint as well. I have no choice but to purchase paint abroad since it is not available in Indonesia. When I do my painting, the frame must be in a lying position. It is only logical that when your frame is upright, paint will drip downward. A smooth painting technique is important for such fine silk material.

John is one of few painters with a graduate degree and is in the midst of doing his postgraduate degree. His works certainly bring a new and different perspective within Indonesia’s contemporary fine arts.

John is an artist from Badung in Java. He creates unique swirling abstracts with a mix of painting and hand embroidery.
Here are several of his pieces.

John’s work will be exhibited at Tusk Gallery 438 Chapel St South Yarra Victoria Australia 613 98273338 southyarra@tuskgallery.com.au throughout March and April. Opening at 6pm March 6th RSVP to email above.

Amanda Brooks – Bright, Beautiful and Affordable Art

Amanda Brookes

Amanda’s unique work reflects the contemporary, casual and colour filled lifestyle of the picturesque Sunshine Coast, Queensland…

Living in the Noosa hinterland  she shares a home with her Husband, their young daughter Coco, and younger Twins Jasper and Indigo .She will happily ship artwork worldwide and offers a 3/5 day door to door delivery service within Australia .

Amanda Brooks’ work on large canvases are vibrant and textured incorporating decopaged antique music notes, damask textures, metalic leaf work, oil pastels, inks and poetic script reflect her love of nature, music and the coast. From her whimsical birds , abstract contemporary florals ,ocean pools to her compositions of beautiful bowls, fruit, and kitchen finery, Amanda’s work captures light and form in a breathtaking manner. Amanda also has an interest in the human form and enjoys figure drawing and painting tasteful nudes. Her paintings are done on high quality stretched canvas with acrylic, oil pastels and inks . Finished with an oil varnish.

Her dedication to observing nature is displayed in the way she approaches her textured contemporary landscapes, whimsical figurines, fresh bold florals and floating hummingbirds. “When one is in touch with nature no season passes unnoticed”, says Amanda.

Amanda comes from a family of artists, dancers and musicians . She started as a graphic designer, moving on to teach painting. This brings to her work a discipline and lifelikeness that is often hard to find in the work of contemporary painters. Attention to detail, composition, interesting layers of paint washes and textures and an eye for colour have made her work highly prized, being represented in private collections throughout South-east Asia, Europe, the United States and Australia. Amanda is now a succesfully published artist overseas.

Amanda’s work caters to the corporate and domestic market attracting renovators, home decorators and designers. Amanda’s work is highly sought after and due to demand she now paints on a full time basis. She considers her work contemporary, unique and affordable and happily personalises and customises all paintings according to her clients personal taste .

It is the warmth the paintings bring to people’s homes and lives that attracts buyers.
