ONE OF OUR FACEBOOK FOLLOWERS SENT A NOTE CHALLENGING RALF’S ORIGINALITY IN REGARD TO HIS NEW BUTTERFLY PAINTINGS. RALF RESPONDS HERE.
David Bromley, Damien Hirst, Andy Warhol and possibly many more names have had a go at this subject matter. Who can claim the right to ownership of a painted butterfly?
I felt like a change and the Butterfly seemed like an apt symbol for me personally, even though it is a very loaded symbol, positive and negative, in many cultures.
The cocoon is part of this tranformative process but just doesn’t look as good as the endresult.
My medium is the stencil and hence these are all spray painted as I usually do and the negative space filled in with metalic paint as I have done on many other paintings.
Composition and technique are different and of course I am aware of Bromley’s as well as Warhol’s And Hirst’s versions. I did not want them to stop me doing my own.
